IN a defence-dominated exchange, it took a remarkable goal to separate the sides, one worthy of providing the winner for Walton & Hersham.
The visitors looked the more competent in the first half, boosted by the goal after six minutes when the ball took a ricochet out to Jack Wood. He took full advantage with a curling, 45-degree shot from outside the Chertsey box that sailed into the top corner of the net.
The visitors continued to look the more composed, but were unable to capitalise. Chertsey had less success with raking passes...
