■ ATHERTON once again failed to turn possession into opportunities and fell to defeat following a feisty stop-start game.
Kielen Adams opened the scoring for the Black & Whites after two minutes, picking up a long-ball from Kier Barry on the turn and sending a powerful shot into the bottom left. Niall Battersby doubled the advantage shortly after, heading home a cross.
Despite not recording a shot in the first half, it took Mossley just 30 seconds to reduce the deficit after the break, Jack Grundy shooting into the top corner.
