Robbie Savage has dismissed rumours linking him with the vacancy at Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers as “purely speculation”, urging Forest Green Rovers supporters not to worry.

The 51-year-old Welshman arrived at The New Lawn last year from Macclesfield, where he held multiple roles, including manager, guiding the phoenix club to the National League North title last season after its formation in 2020.

Savage departed to take charge of Forest Green’s title push this season, aiming to guide the club back into the Football League at the second attempt.

His side ended a three-game winless run in the league with a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Woking on Tuesday night, before rumours began circulating that Savage could be set for a return to Blackburn as manager.

Nothing to worry about

However, in a crucial week for the club as they prepare to face promotion rivals York City on Saturday, the former Blackburn, Leicester City and Derby County midfielder was quick to dismiss the speculation.

He told the club’s media team on Thursday morning: “It’s purely speculation. I loved my time (at Blackburn), brilliant football club.

“I have loved my time here – I have got a great relationship with (the board), we are on a journey and a project and it’s something that I can’t wait to see through.

“It’ll be someone else’s name tomorrow. There’s nothing at all for the fans to worry about.”

Promotion push

Victory for Rovers this weekend could cut the gap to York to just four points, while they will also keep a close eye on the clash between third-placed Carlisle United and league leaders Rochdale.

In a further boost to their promotion push, the club announced the signing of Tate Campbell from Buxton earlier today.

The defensive midfielder has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Bucks this season and has previously featured for the likes of Bromley and Hereford.
