Defender Adrian Mariappa had a pretty good excuse for missing St Albans City’s scheduled trip to Cheshunt on Tuesday night – he was managing Watford in the Championship instead!
The 39-year-old Hornets legend was drafted in to take interim charge of the first-team for the midweek trip to Hull City – alongside Charlie Daniels and Dan Gosling – following the shock resignation of Javi Gracia on Sunday.
Mariappa joined the Saints in November but doubles up as Watford’s Under 21 coach having made over 300 appearances for the club.
And the three-pronged management team impressed as they led the Hornets to a battling 0-0 draw against the promotion hopefuls.
St Albans said in a statement: “We wish Adrian the best of luck, and look forward to welcoming him back.”
