AN uninspiring clash between league strugglers Ashington and Grimsby finished goalless.
In the tenth minute, Ashington’s Ryan Wombwell pushed the ball wide of advancing keeper Kian Johnson to put him clean through. He appeared to be tugged back, but the referee waved aside appeals from the home supporters.
On the half-hour, visiting skipper Sam Topliss had a great chance, but sliced his effort when well placed.
