■ AS the crowd bathed in benign sunshine at Boldmere Community Stadium, the players strove to break the deadlock. The closest they came was nine minutes from the end, when visiting keeper James Goff did well to push a Connor Armstrong rocket over the bar.
Up until then, a stout visiting defence was able to deal with the Mikes’ advances, which all too often were that laboured that their opponents had plenty of time to organise themselves.
