■ ATHERTON Collieries harshly fell to defeat at the hands of Newcastle Town.
The first half was generally a stalemate, but two minutes before the interval the visitors took the lead via a Joel Jones penalty.
As the second half started, Atherton seized the initiative, with a vast majority of the Stripes’ success coming through the left, Chinedu Uche and debutant Luca Jackson carving through Newcastle’s defence at will.
