Kurt aims to rock at Robins

Ashton United boss Steve Cunningham reckons he’s pilled off a transfer coup after snapping up experienced front man Kurt Willoughby.

Ashton United boss Steve Cunningham reckons he’s pilled off a transfer coup after snapping up experienced front man Kurt Willoughby.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of Non-League’s top performers over the last decade having served the likes of AFC Fylde, York City, Chester and Kidderminster.

Now the Fleetwood Town academy product has joined Cunningham’s Robins having left National League North side Buxton at the end of last season.

“This is a special signing and one I have been chasing for years,” Cunningham said. “Kurt is a fantastic goalscorer and has proven that at some fantastic clubs, but he has had a spell over the last two seasons where he hasn’t really played as much as he would want.

“We wanted to create an exciting attacking team this year. With Justin Johnson and now the signing of Kurt, I am confident we will have two players enjoying doing what they do best, and giving us the best chance to win football matches.”

Willoughby will be joined at Ashton by Worksop goalkeeper Tommy Taylor, returning defender John Lufudu and ex-Macclesfield winger Justin Johnson.
