What to Expect at the Doncaster Mile 2021 in Australia?

The Mile is among the biggest races in the Australian Autumn racing calendar in Australia. The race brings together a larger number of milers and middle distance in Australia and beyond. It has a capacity of 20 field runners, and the ranking is determined by the ballot. It occurs on a 1600m stretch, and the only barrier draw is satiated in 600m near the first turn. The race first occurred in 1866 and has been happening since then, engaging 3-year-olds and upwards. Some of the famous horses who have won this race include More Joyous, Sunline, Super Impose, Grand Armee, and Emancipation. These horses won different editions despite carrying huge handicaps.

The 2021 Mile

The Mile 2021 will happen on Saturday 3rd April at Royal Randwick. It will be on Race 9 and Race 10 and has a prize money of $3million. While this is the designated time for starting, the race schedule could change depending on the problematic horse behaviour, scratching, and other unforeseen formalities.

Betting on the Doncaster Mile

The Mile is among the most popular betting events in the Australian racing calendar. Mostly, it is because of the open nature of the Group 1 event. Here is a breakdown of the leading market chances.

  • Melody Belle: The NZ mare has won over 9 Group 1 races and has proven to be a quality horse. She is a consistent and versatile horse and will feature in the Mile.
  • Best of Days: This is an import from Great Britain who has participated in several Group races in Australia. The horse had its best performance in the 2018 Cantala Stakes but hasn’t won since then. Best has, however, accumulated lots of stakes placing.
  • Shared Ambition: The horse is trained by Chris Waller and has won over 6 races. The biggest win was the Flemington that was over 2800m. He is a confident horse with a soft ground record.
  • Brandenburg: Trained by John Sargent, this is an underrated horse that has accumulated high stakes in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes and the G3 Carbine Club Stakes. He has a great ability to settle close to the lead but faces a tough task beating the older, elite horses.
  • Homesman: This is the American bred galloper previously owned by Lloyd Williams but is not under the care of Anthony Freedman. He has participated in several races, such as Underwood Stakes in 2018 and the Feehan Stakes in 2019.
  • Cascadian: This is a Godolphin accomplished horse that is simply starting to hit his straps. He will feature in the Doncaster Mile, and we hope for a top-four chance.

There have been several favourites in the Doncaster field; Winx won in 2016, More Joyous won in 2011, Haradasun won in 2007 and Racing to Win won in 2006. The greatest thing about the race is that it is unpredictable, and you can never know who wins. Nettoyer won the race in 2020. Betting on the Mile does not have to be a hard task.
