Why Badminton is Fun to Play

Badminton is the fastest sport in the world. The fastest speed of a shuttlecock hit by a professional badminton player during a match is slightly shy of 500 km/hr.

There are very few shots to learn in the badminton sport: a drop, a drive, a smash, a clear, a lift, and netting. In addition to these, you also need to learn how to return or block these shots from your opponent(s). While there aren’t many online sports betting options for badminton outside of the Olympics, the sport is still growing in popularity and could be added someday.

Footwork is also vital for badminton. These among other reasons make badminton very fun to play and also to watch.

All-Inclusive

A badminton match can be played by either two people, one against the other, or four people, two against two. Badminton is one of the sports that doesn’t have any special requirements. Children, adults, men, women, and even disabled people play this sport.

The equipment for playing badminton is very light. All you need is a racquet and a shuttlecock. A badminton racquet is very light making it easy to handle, even for a child.

Makes You Happy

During an exercise session that involves quick reflexes and decision-making, the body releases endorphin and dopamine hormones. These are also referred to as the happy hormones or the brain’s reward system. This is experienced when you accomplish something pleasurable.

When playing a badminton match, you experience so many pleasurable moments, like putting that trick shot you’ve been practicing for a while into action, or scoring against your opponent. This is the reason badminton is said to be a happy sport.

Helps You Lose Weight and Keep Fit

The issue of weight management is a very vital concept in our lives. More than 39% of the world’s adult population is either obese or overweight. One in every five children also struggles with weight issues.

Gaining or losing weight depends mostly on two things; diet and exercise. The fact remains that, most overweight or obese people struggle with either checking their diet or working out.

This kind of physical exercise can either motivate you or make you hate it. Badminton is very fun. You not only enjoy the sport but it also helps you lose excess weight.

About 70% of the badminton game is aerobic, helping to improve stamina and even strengthening the heart. About 30% of the sport is anaerobic, which builds the muscles, burns excess fat, maintains muscle mass, and strengthens the bones.

This is achieved since you have to cover an area of approximately 40m2 alone, putting in mind that badminton is a very fast game.

Good Place to Meet New People

Badminton is a very social game, especially at a club level and during competitions. You aren’t on-court playing all the time. During such times when you aren’t playing, you are catching up with other team members and making new friends.

Learning Quick Reflexes and Agility

If you hold a cat’s legs up and release it, it will always land on its legs no matter the distance. Its agility is very high and that’s why it can react very quickly to such actions.

Badminton is a very fast game. You as a player are forced to learn to react very fast during a match. This can also be experienced in daily activities where you tend to be very fast in response. An example is reacting when something is about to fall from the table and you manage to prevent that due to your quick reflex.

Improves the Brain’s Functioning

The brain is a major organ for the functioning of other parts. Therefore, it needs to be maintained health-wise. Training your brain to think and make a decision fast is one way of achieving this.

It is not only important to react quickly during a badminton game, but also to make a decision fast enough on what move to play next.

Traveling and Competition

If you are a member of a club or any team, you will sometimes engage in competitions among yourselves or against other teams. If it’s against other teams like in tournaments, you will be traveling around, and it is fun to have experiences from different parts of the country, if not the world.

Conclusion

Badminton is one of the non-contact sports where opponents never get in contact during a match. It is the fastest sport in the world. There are very few moves to learn in badminton. It becomes very fun to play badminton when you know the right move and shot to take at the right time.

As you enjoy playing badminton, you get other benefits like keeping fit, losing excess weight, making new friends, and traveling around. Let’s continue enjoying this beautiful sport. If you haven’t been playing, now you know why you should start playing!
