‘Gent’ Leon is mourned by many

TRIBUTES have poured in for popular centre forward Leon Taylor – described as “an absolute gentleman” – following his passing on Wednesday evening at the age of 36.

Non-League clubs and players have come together to remember the popular striker and express their condolences.

A statement from the Midland League Division One outfit said: “Darlaston were totally devastated to learn of the passing of our beautiful and great friend, and player Leon Taylor.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Leon's family and friends at this most difficult of times.”

Father-of-two Leon had also played for , Bloxwich United, Brocton, , , and .

Walsall Wood manager Harry Harris, who played with Leon for four years, said: “I'm absolutely devastated that my good good friend Leon Taylor passed away. Rest easy big man. I love you, mate and will miss speaking to you every day about and in general.”

Walsall Wood added in a statement that the Oak Park outfit were “devastated”, adding that Leon was “a top player but more importantly a top bloke who was loved by everyone at the Wood”.

Sporting Khalsa said Leon was: “A truly great footballer and an absolute gentleman”.

A statement from said: “The club are hugely saddened to hear the news of the passing of Leon Taylor, a fantastic character, player and man. We would like to pass on our deepest condolences to Leon's friends and family, along with everyone at .”

Darlaston's game with yesterday was postponed.
