JASON Goldman has quit as manager at Bedford FC only days after the Spartan South Midlands Division One outfit was bought by a local Bitcoin podcaster Peter McCormack – who announced his ambition to take them all the way up from Step 6 to the Premier League.

Bedford-born McCormack told BBC local radio that he intends to use his contacts throughout the crypto-currency world to generate the funding that would be essential for the McMullen Park club to climb up ten tiers of the game.

“I always felt Bedford as a town could support a league club,” he said. “We’re a population of 134,000 people, so I always wanted to buy one of the local teams and have a go at trying to get them into the Football League.”

McCormack initially tried to buy Bedford Town two steps higher up in the pyramid, but after being turned down, he set his sights on Bedford FC, who were set up in 2002 when Bedford United and US Valerio merged.

The club’s very ambitious new owner aims to change their name to Real Bedford at the end of the season, and has already launched a website under that name in a bid to attract global backing

Goldman, who has walked out along with his assistant Martin Wells, said: “Despite the exciting plans ahead, my coaching team and I feel that our positions have been made untenable by those now running the football club.

“We wish the club and the new owner Pete all the best for the future and in his quest to bring Premier League football to Bedford.”
