MUCH-LOVED: Alfie Nunn

CLUBS across the south east are united in their mourning of popular player Alfie Nunn, who passed away suddenly this week at the age of just 35.

Nunn – who turned out for a number of clubs such as Beckenham Town, Croydon, Canterbury City, Stansfeld, Erith & Belvedere and Fisher FC – suffered a heart attack while playing on holiday in Dubai.

Friends, former teammates and clubs across the region led a host of warming tributes on social media as the game remembered a much-loved man and player.

Nunn captained Beckenham to their historic treble-winning season in 2014 when they won the Kent Senior Trophy, Southern Counties East League Cup and SCEFL Challenge Shield.

Secretary Peter Palmer told The NLP: “We are devastated and heartbroken to hear of the passing of our former captain.

“Not only was Alfie a prolific goalscorer and trophy winning captain on the pitch, his loveable character off it meant he was a friend to so many within football in South East London and Kent.

“Alfie created his own piece of history for our club, and the memories he created for his teammates, club officials and our fans will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with Alfie’s family and friends at this difficult time, and everyone at Beckenham Town FC sends their deepest condolences to his family.”

Stansfeld wrote: “So sad to hear about the passing of our ex player Alfie Nunn, our condolences and thoughts are with Alfie and his family at this sad time.”

And Erith & Belvedere added: “Alfie was Matt Longhurst’s last Deres signing and scored three goals in five appearances in October 2015 before moving on to Fisher. Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”
