ALL SAINT: Nico Lawrence

TOP TALENT Nico Lawrence has landed a dream move to the Premier League with Southampton.

The 19-year-old centre-back has joined the Saints on an 18-month contract from Glebe FC following a recent trial. He will now play for their ‘B’ team.

Lawrence started six Southern Counties East Premier games for promotion-chasing Glebe this season and netted in their recent 2-0 victory win over Sheppey United.

He said “I feel excited – delighted to be honest. I felt like Southampton has a better pathway than most clubs. Facility-wise it’s good as well.

“I feel like it will be a great opportunity for me to push on and show what I can do.”

Glebe boss Harry Hudson said: “I’m really happy that we were able to give Nico the platform to play senior football and come up against a different type of challenge. He’s developed and adapted really, really quickly. I’m proud of him!

“Now he’s making the step into a Category 1 academy and if he carries on the development he’s had then I see no reason why he cannot go all the way.

“It’s fantastic that Glebe can have a strong season on the pitch while also providing a platform for players into a pro club!”
