LEGEND: Peter Smith, left, is a stalwart at Marine FC

RAY ELLIS asked which Non- League player holds the record for the greatest number of matches played for one club (NLP, Feb 13). Marine legend, Peter Smith, played 957 games.
He was signed from Wrexham in 1974 and scored 174 goals, despite playing most of those games at centre back.
Smith also played for Los Angeles Aztecs, marking Pele against New York Cosmos.
Although Pele scored twice, he was full of praise for him, saying he had made him work extremely hard throughout.

  • Hold FA accountable – not our volunteers

I GAVE up my role as a Step 5 match secretary of over 15 years in 2019, mainly because of The FA and their intransigent attitude. Having seen the comments from the clubs involved in the Combined Counties Premier South play-offs in last week’s NLP, it appears things have got...

THE Combined Counties Premier South play-offs went from one controversy to another. A hastily-arranged Wednesday night final meant that Cobham had just three days to put together a side to travel to Jersey midweek when players have to get two days off work. Surely the final should have been played...
