KIDSGROVE Athletic manager Scott Dundas has launched a new scheme that ultimately could save someone's life.
The Grove boss has set up Shot-stoppers Lifesavers to help teach footballers – primarily goalkeepers – some vital techniques which could save a life.
Christian Eriksen's horrific collapse at Euro 2020 has prompted an increase in awareness of medical practice, both on and off the pitch.
Now Dundas, the former Witton Albion and Chasetown boss, has launched a scheme to give people the tools required to intervene.
“We're pulling together for all the local teams around Staffordshire,” explained the Grove boss, who also enjoyed a successful playing career with the NPL Division One West side.
“It's mainly for the goalkeepers, hence the shot-stopping name, and it's to get them in for a basic workshop to teach them the basics of lifesaving skills including CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
“With the sponsors we've got on board, it's great that we can offer this scheme out to everybody, locally now and hopefully a bit wider range as we progress along with it.”
Dundas hopes that one day the Shot-stoppers Lifesavers scheme can be implemented up and down the country but first he's just aiming to oversee its launch around Staffordshire before any nationwide roll-out.
“We will have to generate more funds for that situation because we still need to get tutors in and venues to use,” he added.
“Hopefully, we can use the football club's venues here there and everywhere.
“We will keep working hard in getting the sponsorship in and keep moving it forward as much as possible.”
