Betsy’s Crawley in raid for Ben and Moe

BEN Wells and Moe Shubbar have climbed from Non-League into the Football League by signing for ambitious League Two side Crawley Town.

Defender Wells left West Ham for QPR in 2018 and then joined Welling United in the latter part of last season, helping the Wings to avoid relegation from National League South.

The 22-year-old impressed on trial at Crawley this summer and has now stepped back into the EFL by signing a one-year deal with the Red Devils, managed by former Woking star Kevin Betsy.

“Crawley have big ambitions with their new owners and a coach with a great football philosophy,” said Wells.

“Kevin has been very welcoming, and the style of play that he is establishing is refreshing and exciting. I am looking forward to learning a lot from him.”

Shubbar was dual registered for Cheshunt and Edgware Town last season, and it didn’t take him long to make an impression on trial at Crawley.

He notched four goals in a 9-0 romp against East Grinstead Town and also found the net against Charlton Athletic U23s.

“I am very pleased to be here, and I can’t wait to make a start at Crawley,” said Shubbar. “This seems like a great club, and I have really enjoyed my short time here so far.”

Boss Betsy is hoping his Non-League recruits can sparkle in the top 92.

“Ben was let go by QPR, but you can see his quality shine through, and he is very good technically,” explained the 44-year-old.

“He likes to play in a certain style, which I am sure we can give him, and, in return, his quality will shine through.

“Moe is a very exciting player that we have been able to secure. He is a very talented young footballer, and we look forward to working with him at the football club.”
