NOTTS County boss Luke Williams reckons he’s landed a player of Championship pedigree in Jodi Jones.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has joined the National League title chasers on loan from Oxford United until the end of the season.

Jones has history playing against the Magpies over the years and Williams believes he has landed a real coup.

“Jodi’s a player I’ve faced when working in the Championship and League One,” Williams said of Jones, who has been capped four times for the Malta international team.

“He’s a boy with huge talent and I believe it’s only injury which has stopped him from becoming a very successful Championship player, at least.

“Jodi can play inside the pitch or wide. He’s comfortable going at people, which I experienced at Swindon when he played wide right and destroyed us that night. He has the ability to change direction and beat players, and he’s always threatening to provide an assist or score.”

Jones scored a hat-trick against Notts County on the opening day of the 2017/18 season with Coventry City where he spent six years before moving to Oxford United at the start of this season.

His progress, however, has since been hampered by injury with Jones suffering three consecutive cruciate knee ligament ruptures.
