YORK CITY’S Supporters Trust say they welcome the disclosure from unpopular majority owner Glen Henderson to sell them his shares – and insist they are working hard to close the deal.

Henderson became completely detached from Minstermen supporters after unceremoniously sacking popular manager John Askey back in November having led the club to promotion back to ‘s top-flight.

David Webb was then installed as his replacement but he lasted just 10 games before he suffered the same fate last month with the club perilously close to the relegation zone.

Amidst the furore, Henderson told of his willingness to sell his shares to the Trust and leave the club in accordance with the Acceptance Notice submitted to the club on January 5. However, in a statement released this week, he claimed the Trust had been unable to raise the funds necessary to buy him out now, and said he will be offering his stake to an open market from April 4.

“Since the Trust’s announcement in January, I have been working with them as much as possible, and following all relevant protocol,” Henderson said.

“The Trust have been working hard to secure funding to buy my shares in the club.

“However, I am told this has not come to fruition at this stage, but I confirm my commitment to keep working together with the Trust.

“I have offered to continue to provide resources to ensure stability, and am not looking to profit in any way, but can confirm this has not been accepted due to the ongoing purchase negotiations, so my hands are tied until April 4. Following this date, I would then have the option to offer the shares to the open market.”

The Trust responded by saying: “Due to various pressures both on and off the pitch, the Trust is working with various interested parties to expedite the process as quickly as possible,.

“The Trust is providing an injection of working capital to ensure the smooth ongoing operations of the club.”
