MARK Beesley says it shouldn't be underestimated the size of the achievement for his Warrington Town to reach the play-offs again, writes MEGAN GREY.
The Wire were beaten in last season's final by Scarborough Athletic but will be back for more this time round having secured their place in the knockout stages after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Marine on Easter Monday.
The win extended Beesley's side's unbeaten to 22 games ahead of yesterday's penultimate game of the season, against champions South Shields.
And with confidence understandably high at Cantilever Park, the boss believes his side have a good chance to right the wrongs of 12 months ago and finally clinch their place at Step 2.
“I think we were very unlucky last year and, this year, South Shields have been deserved winners. They've been outstanding,” Beesley told The NLP.
“Overall, performances have been good this season. We probably did not finish our chances well enough at times but we got enough points to give ourselves a chance.
“At the moment, we are scoring a few more goals and we are doing better, but we won't be taking too much notice of the unbeaten run.
“It is a big achievement, of course, but promotion is the aim and nothing has been achieved yet.
“The support we have had all season has been great and I'm delighted we've been able to reward the fans by getting in the play-offs again and I just hope we can go one step further this time.”
