New Macclesfield head coach John Rooney praised his players, even though they were beaten at home by Mansfield Town in his first game in charge.
Rooney was delighted how competitive his side was in its opening pre-season friendly against their League One opponents.
“The lads were outstanding for the first 20 minutes.
“We were the better team, kept the ball well and created chances,” he said.

“They had two clean chances – one in each half – and put them in the net.
“But this is our first game, and I said to the lads how proud I was of them....
