Aaron Downes has already masterminded one Step 2 Great Escape – now he’s been placed at the forefront of another.
The Australian coach somehow led crisis club Torquay United to National League South survival with a defiant late run in 2023-24, despite the Gulls having had 11 points deducted for going into administration.
Now, the 40-year-old has been charged with pulling Hereford FC to safety in National League North after Paul Caddis was sacked last week with the Bulls second bottom in the table and 11 points from safety.
