SUTTON UNITED’S Gander Green Lane will play host to England C’s International Challenge Trophy fixture against Slovakia in June.

The Non-League Three Lions started their campaign in style last month as they beat Ukraine 2-0 in Kiev while Slovakia were also victorious, defeating Estonia 4-0.

And the Football Association have confirmed the big clash on Sunday, June 5 (2pm kick-off) will take place at the home of Sutton United.

The U’s have enjoyed a successful first season on their 3G pitch and are competing with Ebbsfleet United and Maidstone United for the National League South title.

Slovakia will prove to be difficult opponents for Paul Fairclough’s side.  The only previous meeting was in May 2014 in Poprad with the home side winning 1-0 in a hard fought encounter.

There will be free admission to the game and it is hoped that as many supporters as possible will come along and whet their appetite for Euro 2016 which begins later in the month.

England C boss Fairclough said: “I have heard excellent reports on the quality of the surface at Sutton and we are looking forward to visiting Gander Green Lane in June.

“We have good memories of playing on an artificial surface as we beat Finland U21 2-0 in Helsinki back in 2007.”

Sutton United chairman Bruce Elliott added: ‘’Coming at the end of such a successful first season with our 3G surface this is a tremendous honour for Sutton United.

“We are delighted to have been asked to stage the game, and look forward to welcoming everyone involved to Gander Green Lane in June.’’
