WHITBY Town failed to make their higher league status count as they crashed to a late defeat at Northern League Whitley Bay.
Bay entered the tie on the back of a staggering 21 goals in their last four games, Whitby unbeaten on their travels, but an absorbing tie turned in Bay’s favour in the final stages.
An Ollie Martin foul on Matty Tymon saw Dale Hopson’s spot-kick superby saved by Bay keeper Tom Flynn and Whitby were reduced to ten men a minute later when midfielder Jassam Sukar was needlessly sent off for a second yellow.
