COOKNEY STEPS UP

RICHARD Cookney has been appointed as manager of North West Counties outfit Garstang.
Cookney is moving up to Step 6 from West Lancashire Premier Division side Poulton, where he has been involved for the past five years, including two-and-half seasons as first-team boss.
He has replaced Andy Payton, who left the Division One North outfit after just five games this season.
A poor start has seen Garstang, who finished seventh last season, struggling near the foot of the table after their opening games.
