RYAN McLean’s goal early in the second period ensured Hereford’s passage in a game that added little to Edgar Street’s glorious FA Cup history.
Neither keeper was overworked in a turgid first half when most of the play was confined to midfield.
Hereford’s best effort came from defender Luke Haines on 21 minutes when he fired in a 35-yarder which was gathered at the second attempt by Sporting’s Ollie Taylor.
