■ AN early Brendan Matthew penalty proved enough for Southall to progress despite the challenge of a much-improved Lancing.
Matthew converted from the spot after seven minutes to give the Isthmian South Central side the lead.
Tyrese Sutherland was Lancing’s most lively outlet, as he flashed a shot wide and went close from distance.
