NORTH SHIELDS progressed to the third round as Jamie Holmes’ goal and half-time substitute Dan Waldon’s double took them past Charnock Richard, who equalised through Matt Davies.
Davies had the first notable chance after nine minutes, when his close-range effort was well saved by Kyle Hayes.
The tide then turned in the Robins’ favour, though. Holmes sent a presentable 20th-minute opportunity over but opened the scoring two minutes later when his 20-yard effort deflected in via Shay Stansfield.
