It could have been different had Martin Tuohy found the net in the first minute, but Elliott Pride tipped his header over.
After the Urchins hit the post and Abs Thompson had a shot deflected around the post, Tuohy put Hornchurch ahead when the visiting defence failed to clear a long ball.
