■ HARTLEPOOL’S experimental line-up were held to a draw at Whitley Bay with a week to go until the National League season.
Trialist Lewis Maloney gave the visitors a lead after five minutes with a tidy long range finish past Tom Flynn.
Pools fielded a weaker side with a number of trialists playing but the visitors remained in control after their early goal and went close as Jonathan Franks shot was tipped over the bar.
Callum Patton equalised for Bay midway through the second half from the spot after a Jacob Owen foul in the box.
