ST ALBANS City survived a late scare to win this pre-season friendly played in sweltering conditions.
Both teams are much changed from last season, but it was Saints who struck the first blow on ten minutes.
A cross fell to the feet of Ronan Michael-Percil who confidently beat Zaki Oualah when completely unmarked. In the 16th minute a defensive error by Hendon gave Ralston Gabriel a chance and he almost lifted the net off its roots to make it 2-0.
