MAGUIRE says he turned down Football League interest to join York City.
The prolific Blyth Spartans striker has joined Steve Watson’s Minstermen and quit his job as a plumber to become a full-time professional.
Maguire, 26, scored 25 goals last season as Spartans reached the National League North play-offs. In all, he has scored 159 goals in 310 games since joining the north-east club in 2012.
“Of course, I want to play at the highest level I possibly can – if you don’t want to do that, you shouldn’t be playing football,” he said.
