WEST CHIEFS PLAN APPEAL

THE West Midlands (Regional) League is set to launch an appeal over a ‘shock’ FA ruling to take away its Step 6 status for next season, writes ROBIN JONES.
Officials of the historic competition say that the loss of Step 6 status now will also threaten the existence of its lower divisions, which compete at Steps 7 and 8.
Starting life in 1889 as the Birmingham & District League, it is one of the oldest competitions in the country and once included Coventry City, Shrewsbury Town, Bangor City and Worcester City amongst its members.
