JUSTIN Johnson netted a fine solo winner as Chorley gave Rochdale a rude awakening to life in Non-League football with a 1-0 win at Victory Park.

Johnson cut in from the left to bamboozle the Dale defence and fire home the winner for the National League North Magpies in the 11th minute.

Trey Charles netted a second-half winner for Stamford as they beat a strong Stevenage side 2-1. The NPL Midland Division outfit took a surprise lead on 20 minutes against their League One visitors when Ricky Miller fired past keeper Taye Ashby-Hammond.

Jake Forster-Caskey headed in an equaliser soon after but after a delayed start to the second half due to thunderstorm, it was Stamford who snatched victory 15 minutes from time when Charles tucked away a corner.

It was the same scoreline for Scarborough Athletic as they saw off Hull City’s u23s thanks to goals from Alex Purver and a trialist, while a late penalty from Dayle Grubb could not save Weston-super-Mare from going down 2-1 at home to Cheltenham Town.

Goals from Riley O’Sullivan and Dan Lafferty handed Stratford Town a 2-1 victory over a Coventry City XI but there were no goals between Woking and AFC Wimbledon and at York City where Middlesborough were the visitors. Southport and Oldham Athletic drew 1-1.

Goals from Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Jordan Buckley sealed a 2-0 win for Warrington Town against Morecambe, new signing Zain Walker bagged two goals in as many minutes as Aldershot Town won 3-0 at AFC Totton. Nnamdi Nwachuku got the only goal against his old club as Braintree Town saw off AFC Sudbury 1-0.

Tyrone Marsh was Boreham Wood’s scorer in a 1-1 draw at Bishop’s Stortford and although Ade Cole scored in the first minute of the second half, Folkestone Invicta lost 2-1 at Dover Athletic.

A sextet of Non-League sides lost at home to EFL opposition with Alfreton Town defeated 4-0 by Mansfield Town, Harrogate Town winning 2-0 at Darlington, Peterborough United beating Peterborough Sports by the same scoreline and Ebbsfleet United trumped 1-0 by Colchester United. Cambridge United were 3-1 winners at St Albans City and Stockport County secured a 4-2 success at Altrincham – Regan Linney and Justin Amaluzor notched for Alty.

Wealdstone had a trialist to thank for a 4-2 triumph at Farnborough, while there was a hat-trick for another player looking to make his mark as Leiston won 4-1 at Ipswich Wanderers.

Cameron Wilson, Kian Scales and Fin Shrimpton saw Scunthorpe United win 3-0 at Ilkeston Town and Danny Wright was on target in Gloucester City’s 2-2 draw with Bracknell Town.
