Put teams into a hat!

I HAVE never liked the idea of teams winning promotion through play-offs.
If two teams are to be promoted, they should be the champions and the runners-up, not a team finishing third, fourth, or even fifth, numerous points behind the secondplaced team.
Now I read that there are proposals for teams that have finished as low as sixth and seventh to be included in the National League play-offs.
Why not go the whole hog? Don’t have any play-off games at all, just put the names of every competing team into a hat, and randomly pick out the name of a side to be promoted!
