Referees need your support – not abuse

I FEEL I need to reply to David Reynolds’ letter (Fans’ Forum, September 2)who criticises the standard of refereeing in the National League following the Chesterfield v Barnet game and his view that this needs urgently addressing.
How I suggest that you address the ‘problem’ is, instead of complaining about it, take the referees course yourself and show us how it should be done. I have been a qualified referee for 15 years and it is a difficult job at the best of times, made all the harder by some small minded comments such as Mr Reynolds’.
