LEAGUE CLOSES AFTER 96 YEARS

THE West Riding County Amateur League is to fold – bringing 96 years of history to a close – after only 12 clubs finished the season.
No fewer than 24 member clubs have folded in the last three years with another six winning promotion or moving to another league, leaving the competition reduced to a single division. League membership has dropped to below 14 clubs, the official FA threshold for it to continue with Step 7 status, although it began last season with 15.
