JAKE COLE’S penalty save secured Maidstone’s place in the FA Cup fourth round qualifying with a home win over Hitchin.
They were given a fright by Southern League Hitchin, who stunned the Gallagher Stadium by taking an early lead through James Verney.
Noah Chesmain and Ibby Akanbi quickly turned the tie around but Maidstone failed to build on their dominance.
Indeed, they would have been facing a replay but for keeper Cole’s heroics from Steve Cawley’s 78th-minute spot-kick.
