TONY Sheldon asks why Rob Smethurst didn’t buy the “old” Macclesfield Town instead of starting up again with a totally new club (NLP, Oct 25). It’s simple!
By allowing the existing club to go into administration, he didn’t buy all the debts. Buying the Moss Rose ground from the receiver was the easiest and least costly way to start again even if it does involve a totally new club dropping right back down the football pyramid.
