■ CHRIS SMALLEY was a colossus at the back for the visitors at they claimed a valuable three points at the Halton Stadium.
The home side picked up an impressive win on the road at Runcorn Linnets last weekend, but were second best against a Clitheroe side that improved as the match went on.
In a game of few clear-cut chances, Clitheroe’s keeper Chris Thompson was the busier of the two stoppers in the first half as the visitors took time to adjust to the artificial surface.
