Burscough remember former chairman ahead of win over Litherland

Burscough remember

BURSCOUGH honoured their former chairman Chris Lloyd with a minute’s applause before the start of Tuesday’s North West Counties Premier Division 4-2 home win over Litherland REMYCA.

Father-of-three Chris, a successful local businessman under who Burscough won the Northern Premier League championship and enjoyed several excellent FA Cup runs, died on September 10 aged 61 after being diagnosed with cancer for a second time.

In 2005, Burscough under Chris beat Gillingham 3-2 in the FA Cup, their first-ever victory over a League side, and were one stop away from meeting Manchester United in the third round, only to lose their second-round replay against Burton Albion.

Chris first became seriously ill in 2008 and stood down as chairman for a year. He later returned, but left again in 2010. Four years later, he served as chairman at Skelmersdale United for eight months.
