Unjabbed players

SCEPTIC: Alan Dowson

ALAN Dowson has labelled some of his unvaccinated Woking players “selfish” after the postponement of two matches due to a Covid case in the squad.

The Cards had to call off fixtures against Bromley and Chesterfield last week following a positive test result.

Players who had not been double-jabbed were forced to isolate for ten days whereas others could return to training.

Dowson was furious that members of his squad had cost the club thousands after he had helped save money last season by fielding a youthful team in the final months which led to 14 defeats in 16 matches and dented his outstanding managerial record.

Chesterfield were expected to bring a large away following but the lucrative fixture will now take place on a Tuesday evening.

“I think they’re selfish players,” blasted Dowson on the club’s website. “Players want to get paid to play and won’t have double jabs. If you had your double jabs it would have been fine, continue playing.

“People don’t have double jabs but they still get paid off us. They miss ten days of training, get paid and could be off another ten days because they won’t have a jab.

“I’m very strong on it. I think everybody should get the double vaccination and play again.”

Dowson was admitted to hospital last year with Covid and feared he was going to die.

“We went through a lot in life the last two years, thousands, maybe millions, dying, then all of a sudden people won’t have jabs,” he said. “It doesn’t sit well with me.

“Some footballers think that’s another ten days off. If they’re going to try and mess my season up I’d rather they go, or get the jabs. Managers should speak out instead of protecting them all the time.”
