NOTTS COUNTY, semifinalists in the last two seasons, began their third FA Trophy campaign with a tense victory over Altrincham.
The all-National League tie, played at 7.30pm to avoid a clash with neighbours Forest, saw the inform Magpies get off to a good start with Ruben Rodrigues netting a 14th minute spot-kick after midfielder Matty Palmer was sent crashing in the penalty area.
But the visitors were not behind for long as Tom Hannigan took advantage of a mistake by Notts goalkeeper Sam Slocombe to slide in a 21st minute leveller.
