DULWICH Hamlet will be wearing a special kit over the festive period to raise money and awareness around homelessness.

Shelter –a charity which works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing – is asking the football community to come together for its #NoHomeKit campaign.

The fundraising idea is calling for clubs and supporters to ditch their home shirt for the Boxing Day fixtures and instead wear an away or third kit in an act of support and solidarity for people without a home.

Within one 90-minute game, 25 households will become homeless, many of them will be families with children.

The National League pledged its support behind the campaign last month and clubs from across the Non-League pyramid have also signed up to show their backing to the movement. Dulwich have created a unique kit emblazoned with the Shelter logo which they will wear during their two home fixtures this Christmas. They will then auction off the shirts to raise funds for the campaign.

Homelessness, and the housing crisis in general, is reaching a critical point with 180,000 households having been made homeless since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Right now, 91 families in England are made homeless every single day and sadly more could face losing their homes with a tough winter ahead.
