■ IN front of a record crowd in excess of 800, a thrilling and feisty play-off semi-final went the way of Stockton.
The visitors enjoyed much the better of the opening phase of a gripping tie, racing into a two-goal advantage.
Firstly, on 15 minutes, a corner was initially cleared but recycled by Tom Coulthard onto the head of captain Adam Nicholson, who made no mistake from close range.
Then, six minutes later, defender Tim Lowe heroically turned an effort onto the crossbar, the ball fell to Kevin Hayes, who cut in and fired into the far corner.
