SAFFRON WALDEN TOWN, runners-up last season, got off to a winning start at Catons Lane, but they had to struggle to overcome Clapton, who took the lead through Khyree Smith-Read after 33 minutes.
The lead lasted barely a minute as Palvy Maduakila levelled, but it took until the 86th minute for the Bloods to snatch a winner, Gavin Cockman on target.
Athletic Newham have made a good start to the season winning 3–0 at Takeley. Their goals came from Michael Dagger (two) and Richard Kone.
