BEN POPE’S 18th-minute strike proved the difference as Hastings held on for the points in this battle of play-off hopefuls.
Pope’s goal came after a free-kick was taken short to defender Ryan Worrall, his effort was parried into the feet of Pope, who coolly slotted the ball into the net.
The U’s maintained the pressure and called the Wanderers keeper Shaun Rowley into action again with a header from Pope saved by the keeper and the follow-up from Jack Dixon also kept out.
