CANVEY Island took a giant step towards sealing a play-off place with an impressive victory at Park Lane.
The Gulls were indebted to three second-half goals after Hastings took lead on the half-hour mark – Craig Stone turning the ball over the line after David Smith had headed towards goal from a corner.
Smith struck the post soon after as Hastings held a deserved half-time lead.
