■ WINTERTON embarked on their Step 4 debut with a narrow defeat. Experience immediately paid dividends as the home side pushed forwards with the visiting defence unable to settle and Slocombe giving them an early lead.
As the first half continued Winterton put the early setback to one side and grew into the game, equalising with a delightful lob over the Consett goalkeeper by Baskerville.
The second half did not have the quality of the first and the game turned into a scrappy affair.
