THIS dour game was decided by two defensive mistakes by Merstham. Hythe deserved the points, but there was little to get excited about with the ball in the air more than on the ground.
Hythe went ahead after 13 minutes with Liam Smith totally unmarked to head home.
The visitors looked dangerous every time the ball went into the box, but in truth, neither goalkeeper really had a save to make in the first half.
The second half was a more even affair, however.
